Thai Nguyen debuted his eponymous collection on March 12 at Concept Los Angeles Fashion Week. The well-known Vietnamese designer was formerly an associate designer for BCBG Max Azria and a finalist on Bravo’s “Launch My Line.” Known for his 5-year-old custom-made couture collection, the show marks Nguyen’s move into the ready-to-wear arena. The designer presented looks from his new dress line as well as couture gowns and bridal wear. Dresses are his specialty.
The ready-to-wear collection included an array of dresses in jewel tone silk fabrics to complement a variety of skin tones. Models of various ethnicities were chosen to showcase the collection, which was made in silk chiffon, georgette and charmeuse.
For the bridal collection, Nguyen kept the look light. Ethereal and minimal silhouettes in Duchess and crepe-back satin were made to flatter the bride. He focused on selecting beautiful fabrics and incorporating subtle details such as the flirty net ruffle on a hem of an origami-esque sash at the waist. –N. Jayne Seward
